    What the CareScout score is, and what it is not

    It is

    • An unofficial estimate that CareScout calculates.

    It is not

    • Issued, reviewed, or endorsed by the state or any agency.
    • A license grade. The state licenses centers but does not score them.
    • A finding that a center is safe or unsafe.
    • A substitute for the inspection reports and a visit.

    Set the weights

    Each factor is graded from 0% to 100% using fixed rules. The sliders decide how much of the 100 points each factor can earn. Weights always rebalance to a total of 100%, and they are saved in this browser.

    Start from

    Left out of the score on purpose: tuition, distance, and openings, which depend on your family and live in the filters. License problems are never folded into the number either. They appear as a notice on the center's record, and sorting by inspection record ignores your weights entirely.
